The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has declared that President Akufo-Addo’s refusal to assent to three bills passed by Parliament provides grounds for his removal from office. Ayariga cited Article 69 of the Constitution, which outlines the conditions under which a president can be removed.

“It says that the president shall be removed from Office if he is found in accordance with the provisions of this article A from assent in wilful violation of the oath of allegiance and the presidential oath set out in the second schedule or wilful violation of any other provision of this constitution. It is grounds for his removal,” Ayariga stated.
He further alleged that the President was aware of, encouraged, and patronized the events leading to his refusal to sign the bills, and then willfully violated provisions of the constitution in his response.
President Akufo-Addo recently declined to sign into law three bills passed by Parliament, asserting that they infringe on the constitution of the Republic. The bills in question include two amendments to the Criminal and Other Offences Act and the Wildlife Resources Bill.
