Divine Agorhom, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman in the Greater Accra region, has expressed his preference for delegates to retain the party’s sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) in the upcoming parliamentary primaries. Agorhom believes that the incumbent MPs, with their accumulated experience and familiarity with the terrain, should be retained for continuity.

As of now, 18 MPs, including Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, have declared their intentions not to seek re-election on December 7. Despite the party’s efforts to ensure a free and fair process, Agorhom, in an interview with Citi News, emphasized his desire for the incumbent MPs to be retained.
While acknowledging the internal election process and the vetting for aspirants, Agorhom stated, “If you ask me, I would have wished that we maintain all our incumbent 14 MPs; at least they have gone through the process before. And they have some level of experience which is to our advantage, so if we have them there, then we can concentrate on the orphan constituencies.”
The NPP has scheduled vetting for aspirants in all 137 constituencies participating in the next phase of elections from January 3 to January 5. The party aims to ensure a fair process, with over 90% of constituencies having multiple aspirants filing at the close of nominations. However, there are constituencies where aspirants are running unopposed. The Greater Accra Region has two such constituencies. The party has instructed a cautious approach to candidate disqualifications ahead of the vetting process.
