In a significant infrastructure development initiative, the reconstruction and expansion of the Accra-Tema Motorway began on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. The ambitious 19.5-kilometer project, overseen by Ghanaian-owned construction company Maripoma Enterprise Limited, will transform the existing motorway into a 10-lane corridor stretching from the Tetteh Quarshie roundabout to the Tema roundabout.

Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah, made the announcement during a tour of ongoing road projects in Accra. The Accra-Tema Motorway project marks the first phase of expansion, with subsequent phases covering stretches from Tetteh Quarshie to Apenkwa and Apenkwa to Neoplan.
Minister Amoako-Attah expressed confidence in the swift progress of the project and urged institutions with billboards on the road to remove them promptly.
During the tour, the Minister also visited ongoing drainage projects at Tema Community 11 and 12, commending the commendable progress made by the contractor.
Predicting a transformative year for road infrastructure in 2024, Minister Amoako-Attah emphasized the importance of commissioning completed projects. He urged contractors to engage with communities before starting projects to ensure effective cooperation and minimize inconveniences for residents.
Expressing satisfaction with ongoing drainage work, the Minister commended contractors for repairing slabs in the area, facilitating residents’ access to their houses. He emphasized the need for quality work, warning that any construction company delivering substandard work would face legal consequences.
On the completion of the Tema bridge, Minister Amoako-Attah confirmed its status and highlighted that 50 such bridges have been completed across the country.
Technical Director of Raceg Construction Limited, Mr. Kingsley Attafuah, provided insights into the progress of the Tema drainage system, noting that 80 percent of the project had been completed since its commencement in July 2023. He assured Ghanaians of completing the work on schedule to pave the way for road construction set to begin in March 2024.
