In a remarkable showcase of literary prowess, Abigail Dwamenaa Acheampong, a first-year student at Odorgonno Senior High School, has emerged victorious in the inaugural EMERALD National Short Story Writing Competition. Abigail, a former student of Blissful Home Academy in Kasoa, clinched the prestigious award with her captivating story titled “The Last Dance.”

Competing during her time in JHS Basic Nine (9) last year, Abigail earned an impressive 72 points, securing the second position in the competition. Notably, no participant achieved a score of 80 points or above, resulting in an absence of a first-place winner. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Miss Acheampong expressed her desire for publishers to support her in publishing her story as a book, allowing book enthusiasts broader access to her captivating narrative.
During a prize presentation ceremony in Accra, Mr. Abeiku Sagoe, a seasoned Ghanaian author and playwright, presented the award to Abigail on behalf of the organizers. He commended the teenage writer, emphasizing that the sky is just the starting point of her promising writing career. Other participants in the competition were also recognized and awarded for their contributions.
The EMERALD National Short Story Writing Competition was made possible through the sponsorship of notable entities, including BIC, COWBELL, AUTHOR BETHEL, and NANA PHREEMAN. The competition serves as a platform to nurture and celebrate emerging literary talent, providing young writers with opportunities to showcase their creativity and storytelling skills.
