The energy Company of Ghana (ECG) has emphasised that it has not begun charging VAT for energy use.

The Trades Union and Congress (TUC) and former President John Mahama have all urged for the repeal of the VAT on energy use, claiming that it will exacerbate Ghanaians’ hardship.
Residential electricity users who exceed the maximum usage level indicated for block costs linked with lifeline units will be charged VAT.
A statement issued by ECG on Monday ( 22 January) said “The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Limited wishes to inform our cherished customers and the general public that the Value Added Tax (VAT) on residential electricity consumption above life line category has not been implemented. All stakeholders should take note.”
