The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has challenged the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) to present evidence supporting allegations of her involvement in the assault on Cape FM journalist, David Kobbina, during her vetting in Cape Coast. In response to the GJA’s declaration of a total media blackout against her, Koomson deemed it unfortunate and not reflective of the actual events.
Expressing her displeasure, Koomson refuted the claims and insisted that the GJA had not conducted a thorough investigation into the matter before imposing the media blackout. She emphasized that, despite being in Cape Coast for vetting, no one approached her about the alleged assault, and she was surprised to hear about it in the media.
Addressing the situation, Koomson asserted, “I don’t think the GJA has conducted a thorough investigation into the matter before issuing the blacklist against me.” She further revealed that the GJA President, Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, had promised to send her the footage of the incident but had not done so.
Koomson, now completed with her election activities, is challenging the GJA President and the Association to either provide concrete evidence of her involvement in the assault or issue an apology. She warned of potential legal action, stating, “If not, we will meet in court.”
“I am challenging him to provide evidence of the assault proving that I was behind it or to apologize to me. If not, we will meet in court,” Mavis Hawa Koomson conveyed in her response to Citi News.
