The Asogli State Council has issued a statement addressing recent speculations surrounding Togbe Afede XIV’s potential candidacy as the running mate for National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama in the upcoming 2024 Presidential election.
In the statement released on Tuesday, the Council refuted claims suggesting that Togbe Afede XIV had instructed individuals to advocate for his selection as Mahama’s running mate. It emphasized that while Togbe Afede is committed to serving Ghana, he has not mandated any person or group to lobby for his candidacy.
Recent reports had linked Togbe Afede to the possibility of joining Mahama as his running mate, with a group called the “Change Makers Forum” reportedly urging him to consider the role. However, the Asogli State clarified that Togbe Afede believes the choice of a running mate is the prerogative of the flag bearer, and he respects Mahama’s decision.
The Council expressed gratitude for the trust shown by the “Change Makers Forum” and other well-intentioned professionals who expressed their desire for Togbe Afede to be the next Vice President of Ghana. However, it reiterated that Togbe Afede has not mandated anyone to lobby on his behalf.
The Asogli State Council apologized for any confusion or embarrassment caused by the speculations and affirmed that Togbe Afede’s office remains open to communication and feedback from all citizens and stakeholders. They encouraged individuals or groups with concerns or suggestions to reach out directly.
