The opposition party claims that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer has the foresight required by a real leader, making him indistinguishable from the NDC flagbearer, John Mahama.

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC’s General Secretary, made these allegations during a news conference in Accra on Wednesday. He applauded Mr. Mahama for his visionary leadership, which was inspired by the legacy of Kwame Nkrumah, Jerry John Rawlings, and Professor Atta Mills.

Mr Kwetey praised Mahama’s accomplishments, particularly his collaboration with Prof Mills to develop the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant, a game changer in the country’s energy environment.

He also cited Mahama’s improvements in health facilities, including the UGMC, Ridge Hospital, Ga East Municipal Hospital, and Shai Osudoku Hospital, which were critical during the COVID-19 epidemic.

Mr Kwetey commended Mahama for establishing a stabilisation fund as part of the oil income reserves, which proved critical during the 2020 COVID issue. He chastised the Bawumia-led economic team for failing to set aside cash to settle the country’s obligations beginning in 2025, despite having access to resources totaling over 800 billion Cedis over almost eight years.

Mr Kwetey praised Mahama’s imaginative leadership by mentioning the development of nearly 900 km of rural fibre optic backbone, which connects 120 villages from Ho to Bawku. He also chastised Bawumia for talking about digitization while ignoring NDC’s considerable investments in 4G LTE, the National Data Centre, the Accra Digital Centre, and other technological applications.

Mr Kwetey voiced worry over the government’s failure to improve Ghana’s electricity generation capacity, while commending Mahama for his visionary leadership in establishing the ESLA Fund, Ghana Exim Bank, and leveraging balance sheets for significant expansion.

He chastised Dr Bawumia for overseeing imprudent borrowing, which contributed to Ghana’s inability to repay its debt.
