The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Wing has issued a scathing critique of the government’s handling of the unemployment crisis in the country.
In a statement signed by NDC’s National Youth Organizer, Lawyer George Opare Addo, the party expressed dismay over what it termed as “unacceptable” unemployment rates under the leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Bawumia, citing figures released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS). The statement highlighted inconsistencies in government-reported employment figures and emphasized the need for urgent action to address the growing unemployment problem.

NDC YOUTH WING TAKES ON GOVERNMENT FOR PROPELLING UNEMPLOYMENT
The Nation Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Wing has taken on government for unemployment situation in the country.
In a statement signed by the National Youth Organizer of NDC , Lawyer George Opare Addo, the NDC Youth Wing says that “it finds it unacceptable , the rate of unemployment under the leadership of Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia as released by Ghana Statistical Service(GSS)”.
The statement further stated although the current government has gotten more resources than every government in the fourth Republic , little can been seen as an achievement for the huge resources they have amassed ever since the government of New Patriotic Party NPP assumed office of Government since January 2017.
“It is a shame that a government that has had access to more resources and revenues than any other government in the history of Ghana will record such unemployment figures”.
The NDC Youth Wing also bemoaned government inconsistencies in reporting unemployment figures to the Ghanian Populace. Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia have churned out different employment figures in the past years .
“The deputy employment Minister ,Bright Wireko Brobbey mentioned that the government has created over 3.5 million jobs since 2017. Mr. Ken Ofori Attah also gave a different figures of about 2.5 million jobs as being created ; not forgetting the recent figures of 2.1 million job between 2020 and 2023 presented by the sitting Vice President and Flag Bearer of NPP, Dr. Muhamadu Bawumia .
Referencinng GSS, NDC Youth said that statistical data contradicts government claims that it has created million of jobs . “1.8million tertiary graduates are unemployed and government has no solution . The mismanagement of public funds ,epitomized by dubious deals such as Agyapa and the squandering of millions on project like the National cathedral.
Ending the statement with hope, the Youth Wing says the 24 hour Economy being promulgated by the former President and Flagbearer of NDC , H.E john Dramani Mahama will bring reliefs to Ghana working population with regards to employment.
“The NDC through our incoming President H.E John Dramani Mahama , has proposed that the main policy that will help reduce unemployment rate in Ghana in a long term is the 24 hour economy and without fall the NDC will deliver jobs in the construction sector , health , agro processing , tourism and hospitality.
