The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, in a Facebook message, has lauded the decision of Ghana’s Parliament approval of the Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill.

According to him, the approval “is a pivotal step towards preserving Ghanaian values amidst global debates on LGBT rights. The legislation aims to protect the sanctity of marriage and family structures, reflecting the collective will of the Ghanaian people.”
The Speaker added that, “Efforts are now underway to secure President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s assent, marking a significant development in Ghana’s social and legal landscape.”

The Parliament of Ghana yesterday 28th February 2024, approved the Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill in a bid to safeguard traditional cultural norms.
While the bill’s passage has been hailed by supporters as a triumph for Ghanaian culture, it has also ignited debate within and beyond the country’s borders.
Advocates for LGBT rights argue that the legislation undermines human rights and perpetuates discrimination. The decision reflects broader tensions between traditional values and global human rights standards.
As Ghana navigates this delicate balance, the outcome of the bill’s enactment will undoubtedly shape the country’s social and political landscape for years to come.
