Former President John Mahama has raised serious concerns about safety protocols following an accident involving a newly imported train during its test run along the Tema-Mpakadan railway line on April 18, 2024. Mahama questions the adequacy of pre-operational checks, noting the absence of a track inspection before the test ride and expressing concerns about the duration the vehicle had been on the track prior to testing.

In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), the Former President stated, “How can you conduct a test run on a new railway line without a track inspection? How long had the vehicle been on the track before the test run? If I were President, I’d be asking some serious questions.”

Following the accident, Abel Dzidotor, the truck driver involved, was sentenced to a six-month jail term after pleading guilty to three of the four charges against him, including inconsiderate driving and causing unlawful damage.
