Kasoa: GAF Commences Probe into Soldier’s Murder at Millennium City

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has launched an investigation into the tragic death of a soldier at Millennium City in Kasoa, Central Region.

Initial reports suggest that Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Danso Michael was killed amid a dispute over land ownership. According to a statement released on Wednesday, May 1, by the GAF, L/Cpl Omar Abdul Rahman was involved in a land dispute concerning a half plot at Millennium City. The Millennium City Police Station had advised all parties involved to refrain from any activity on the disputed land until the matter was resolved.

Allegedly, L/Cpl Omar Abdul Rahman was informed that some people were working on the land. Accompanied by two colleagues – L/Cpl Danso Michael (deceased) and L/Cpl Ametus Matthew – they visited the land and confirmed the information. Subsequently, they stopped the individuals from working and proceeded to report the issue at the Millennium City Police Station.

However, while at the Police Station, the alleged owner of the land arrived with two others believed to be land guards. A confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired, resulting in the tragic death of L/Cpl Danso Michael. The perpetrator was disarmed and arrested by the police.

“Whilst at the Police Station, the acclaimed owner of the land arrived with 2 others believed to be land guards and confronted the soldiers during which they started firing at the deceased soldier who was going to park a vehicle at the Police Station. The police disarmed and arrested the firer after realizing L/Cpl Danso had been hit by the rounds fired. The body of the deceased soldier has since been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital morgue,” it stated.

The body of the deceased soldier has been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital morgue. The GAF expressed its deepest sympathies to the family, colleagues, friends, and loved ones of the fallen soldier, emphasizing its collaboration with the police for further investigations.

The public will be informed about the outcome of the investigations in due course. The GAF strongly condemned the unprovoked attack, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining law and order in communities.
