Gideon Boako Refutes Allegations of Bawumia’s Kumasi Highway Blockage

Spokesperson for the Vice President and presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Gideon Boako has refuted claims circulating on social media suggesting that Dr. Bawumia’s convoy was obstructed by irate youth along a section of the Nkawkaw-Kumasi highway.

A viral 47-second video on social media depicts two police dispatch riders and several vehicles waiting behind a barricade set up by some youth across the highway. While speculation arose that the vehicles in the video were part of the Vice President’s convoy, Dr. Boako addressed these claims on his Facebook page, asserting, “The Vice President did not even use that road during the entire week.”

Dr. Boako elaborated on Dr. Bawumia’s itinerary, stating that he was in the Western region on May 1 and 2, then moved to the Western North region on May 3, and arrived in Kumasi around 10 pm on May 3. He departed from Kumasi to Accra by air on May 4, discrediting any possibility of him using the Nkawkaw-Kumasi road during that time.

Dr. Boako clarified that the road blockade was due to a fuel tanker accident, where youth took preventive measures to avert potential casualties from an explosion until authorities cleared the road for commuters.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia commenced his nationwide campaign tour on April 29, 2024, covering various regions including the Eastern Region, Dome Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region, the Western Region, and the Western North Region.
