The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced a three-week interruption in power supply, commonly referred to as ‘dumsor,’ due to a reduction in gas supply from Nigeria.

The West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) explained in a statement that the reduction in gas supply is a result of maintenance works being undertaken by a gas supplier in Nigeria, projected to last for three weeks.

This maintenance has led to a decrease in overall power generation capacity in Ghana, which may necessitate load management during this period.

However, GRIDCo and ECG have assured the public that they are working closely with other stakeholders in the power value chain to optimize available resources and minimize the impact of the gas supply reduction on consumers.
