The Medical Director of the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital has been temporarily suspended as the Ghana Health Service (GHS) investigates allegations of patient abandonment.

This action follows reports that a patient was left in a bush at Gomoa Ojobi in the Central Region. On June 13, a video emerged showing a woman wrapped in sheets and allegedly abandoned in a bush, sparking outrage on social media. It was claimed that the woman had been dumped by an ambulance from the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba.

In a statement dated June 14, the GHS Director-General, Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, informed the Minister of Health that the suspension was necessary to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation. He emphasized that all relevant information would be accessible to the investigative committee.
Kuma-Aboagye assured that appropriate actions would be taken based on the investigation’s findings to hold those responsible accountable.
