In a bid to streamline passport application processes and significantly reduce wait times, the Mahama administration has introduced a 24-hour economy initiative aimed at ensuring round-the-clock operations at all passport application centers across the country.

The implementation of 24-hour passport services will eliminate the need for citizens to queue at dawn for basic passport services and drastically cut down the current waiting period of 3-6 months. This initiative promises to deliver passports in a more timely and efficient manner, addressing a longstanding grievance among the populace regarding delays in passport processing.

Under the new system, passport offices will operate 24/7, divided into three shifts of eight hours each. This operational model is expected to create numerous job opportunities for the unemployed and underemployed, contributing to economic growth and reducing unemployment rates.

“The 24-hour passport service is a significant step towards enhancing the delivery of essential services to our citizens. No longer will people have to endure long queues and extended waiting periods for their passports. This initiative is part of our broader vision to transform public service delivery in the country,” a spokesperson for the Mahama administration stated.

The benefits of a 24-hour economy extend beyond passport services. The administration envisions similar round-the-clock operations for other critical services, including the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), port services, and customs services. Such comprehensive service availability is expected to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction across various sectors.

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has praised the #Mahama24HourEconomy initiative, hailing it as a game-changer that will bring significant improvements to public service delivery and economic activity.
