The Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a strong condemnation of the proposed sale of SSNIT‘s shares in six valuable hotels. This sale, involving Rock City Hotel owned by Bryan Acheampong, the current Minister of Agriculture, has been described by the NDC as a clear example of the corruption and state capture being perpetuated by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration.
In a press statement released today, the NDC Youth Wing fully endorsed the “Hands Off Our Hotels” demonstration scheduled for Tuesday, 18th June 2024, urging all Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to participate in the protest. The statement highlighted that SSNIT, an institution responsible for safeguarding the pensions of hardworking Ghanaian workers, is now allegedly complicit in a scheme that jeopardizes financial security and public trust.
“This sale is just one in a series of nefarious actions by this administration,” the statement read. “The sale of prime lands in Accra to government cronies, the mismanagement of the Agyapa Royalties deal, and the scandalous PDS debacle are all clear instances of state capture and corruption.”
The NDC Youth Wing accused the government of prioritizing self-enrichment over serving the people of Ghana, calling for a collective resistance against these actions. They praised Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for his efforts to seek justice and urged all citizens to join the protest and demand the government act in the nation’s best interest.
Addressing President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia directly, the statement warned that the youth of Ghana would not tolerate continued corrupt practices and would ensure accountability.
“Join us in this fight for the integrity of our nation,” the statement concluded.
The demonstration is expected to draw significant participation from across the country as citizens rally against what they perceive as a blatant disregard for public welfare and an egregious abuse of power by the current administration.
