Willie Mays, widely regarded as one of the greatest baseball players of all time, has passed away at the age of 93.
The legendary center fielder, nicknamed “Say Hey Kid,” died yesterday afternoon.
Mays played for the New York Giants and San Francisco Giants from 1951 to 1973, winning two MVP awards and appearing in 24 All-Star Games. He finished his career with 660 home runs, a record that stood for over 30 years.
Mays was known for his incredible defensive skills, earning him 12 Gold Glove awards, as well as his powerful hitting and charismatic personality. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979, in his first year of eligibility.
