Five Members of Ghana’s Parliament and an accompanying officer, who were caught up in violent protests in Kenya, are reported to be safe and secure.
“Parliament (MP’s) and the Officer accompanying the delegation are safe and secure. The delegation is made up of some members of the Local Government Committee of Parliament. They include the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Emmanuel Akwasi Gyamfi, Ranking Member of the Committee, Hon. Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Hon. Sylvester Tetteh, Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko, Hon. Mohammed Taferu and a Senior Principal Assistant Clerk, Anita Quartey Papafio..”
The High Commission of Ghana in Kenya has confirmed the well-being of the delegation, which was on a bench-marking visit to the Kenyan Parliament when the unfortunate incident occurred.
“The delegation was in the Kenyan Parliament on a bench-marking visit when the unfortunate incident occurred. They were immediately escorted and secured in the Senate building and finally evacuated to their hotel by Officials of the Kenyan Parliament”.
The Parliament of Ghana has acknowledged public concern over the incident and assured that efforts are underway to ensure the delegation’s safe return to Ghana.
