Kejetia Market Traders Demand Dismissal of Facility Director

Traders at the New Kejetia Market in Kumasi are urging the government to urgently dismiss the managing director, Mr. Edmund Kofi Duffour. They have issued a two-week ultimatum, threatening to take matters into their own hands if no changes are made within the stipulated time.

At a press conference on Tuesday, June 25, the traders accused the current management of mismanagement, including the unlawful sale of pavements, leading to overcrowding. They also raised concerns about the disappearance of 300,000 cedis donated to victims of last year’s fire outbreak.

Reuben Amey, secretary of the Combined Kejetia Traders Association, called on the government to ensure the contractor returns to the site. He expressed frustration over the delay in repairing the market after the fire incident, which destroyed 54 shops.

Amey emphasized that the ongoing issues could escalate, especially with the upcoming elections, warning that traders might resist government presence in the market if their concerns are not addressed. The traders stressed the need for urgent reconstruction to support the affected victims and restore normalcy to the market.
