Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer for Ghana’s upcoming general election, held a private meeting with Majority Leader Alex Afenyo-Markin on Friday, June 28.
The meeting, which occurred shortly after 4 pm at the Vice President’s residence, focused on Dr. Bawumia’s choice of running mate for the December polls.
According to sources within the party, Dr. Bawumia has chosen Mathew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate. He instructed Afenyo-Markin, the MP for Effutu, to communicate this significant decision to the Majority Caucus in Parliament. The Effutu MP has since delivered the message as directed.
Furthermore, the NPP is expected to hold a National Council meeting next Tuesday. This meeting will provide Dr. Bawumia with the opportunity to officially present his running mate selection to the party’s leadership for their consideration and approval, in accordance with the NPP’s constitution.
