Government Doubles Cash Grants for LEAP Beneficiaries

The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), has announced a significant increase in cash grants for households benefiting from the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme. This increase comes with the release of GHC103,251,072.01 to support 324,073 beneficiary households.

According to a statement from the ministry dated Thursday, June 27, the 89th cycle of LEAP cash grant payments, covering January and February 2024, will commence on Monday, July 1, 2024, nationwide. This follows a prior 100% increase in the LEAP grant announced in June 2023.

The ministry emphasized that this substantial boost in financial support highlights the government’s dedication to alleviating poverty and enhancing the quality of life for the country’s most disadvantaged citizens.

From 2015 to 2023, LEAP grants were disbursed bi-monthly as follows: GHC64.00 for one-member households, GHC76.00 for two-member households, GHC88.00 for three-member households, and GHC106.00 for households with four or more members.

The ministry also expressed gratitude to its partners—the World Bank, World Food Programme, and the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office—for their ongoing support of the LEAP programme.
