Former First Lady Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama emphasized the crucial role of women in society during the 40th-anniversary celebration of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church Women’s Ministry in Ho on Sunday.
As the Special Guest of Honour, Mrs. Mahama spoke passionately about women’s responsibilities in raising children and building homes, aligning with the event’s theme, ‘Caring for God’s Creation; The Role of Women’s Ministry’.
“Our roles as women are sacred duties to God and humanity,” Mrs. Mahama stated, urging women to recognize their value and demand respect.
She highlighted trailblazing Ghanaian women like Rt. Hon. Joyce Adeline Bamford-Addo, the first female Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, as inspirations for the younger generation.
Mrs. Mahama praised her husband, John Dramani Mahama, for his commitment to women’s leadership, noting his selection of Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate. “This decision demonstrates inclusiveness and trust in women as equally capable leaders,” she remarked.
As founder and president of the Lordina Foundation, Mrs. Mahama advocated for equal opportunities for women, asserting, “Women are more than capable of excelling at any level of leadership.”
She also called for women to lead in promoting peace during the upcoming December elections. “We must avoid violence and conflicts, as history shows women and children suffer most from electoral violence,” she warned.
The Church leadership concluded the event by offering prayers for the Mahama family and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2024 elections.
