The latest data from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) indicates that inflation for June has dropped to 22.8%. This represents a 0.3 percentage point decrease from the 23.1% rate recorded in May 2024.
The month-on-month inflation rate for June also saw a decrease, recording 2.9%. According to the Consumer Price Index data released by the GSS, food inflation stood at 24.0% while non-food inflation was 21.6%.
Government Statistician, Professor Samuel Kobina Anim, provided a detailed breakdown of the figures in an address to the media in Accra on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.
“The year-on-year inflation for June 2024 stood at 22.8%, signaling that between June 2023 and June 2024, the prices of goods and services went up by 22.8%. This rate of inflation indicates a slowdown by 0.3 percentage points on a month-on-month basis as the rate for May 2024 stood at 23.1%,” Prof. Anim explained.
He also noted regional disparities in inflation rates, highlighting that the Upper East region recorded the highest rate at 35.20%, while the Oti region had the lowest at 12.5%.
