Four individuals seeking to replace the current Manhyia South Member of Parliament as the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the 2024 elections have been cleared to contest in the upcoming internal elections. The election committee confirmed their eligibility.
The NPP’s Manhyia South Parliamentary seat has been left vacant following the elevation of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Although five prospective aspirants picked up nomination forms, only four were able to file and proceed with the process.
On Tuesday, July 9, supporters of the aspirants gathered at the party’s office while the vetting was underway. Following the vetting, the committee conducted a ballot for the aspirants and announced that everything is set for the Parliamentary elections on Sunday, July 14.
Danquah Smith Buttey, the NPP’s National First Vice Chairman, called for a clean campaign ahead of the elections.
The candidates include Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, the biological brother of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who is number one on the ballot, a private legal practitioner, who is placed number two on the ballot, Akwasi Coker Gyambibi, who is the number three candidate on the ballot, James Owusu Boakye, an Assembly Member for the Manhyia Electoral area, who secured number four on the ballot.
A total of 569 delegates are expected to vote in Sunday’s primary.
