The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has called off its strike after a successful meeting with government representatives.

This decision follows discussions with the Office of the Senior Presidential Adviser, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR), and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) on Friday, July 12, 2024.

CLOGSAG initiated a nationwide strike on July 3, due to the government’s failure to implement a new salary structure for its members. The agreed-upon salary structure was supposed to be implemented in January 2023 but had been delayed for one and a half years. The Association had instructed its members and secretariats nationwide to stay away from work until further notice.

In a statement dated July 12, 2024, CLOGSAG announced that both parties are committed to resolving the outstanding issues related to the salary structure for civil service and local government staff.

“The Government of Ghana, represented by the Office of the Senior Presidential Adviser, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR), and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), and the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) met on 12th July, 2024.

“Both parties demonstrated a commitment to resolving pertinent issues relating to the salary structure for the Staff of the Civil Service and the Local Government Service,” the statement read.

The government has assured that the finalisation of the salary structure process will be completed by October 31, 2024, with implementation set for January 1, 2025. Based on this agreement, CLOGSAG has called off the strike with immediate effect.
