The Management of Ghana Water Ltd (GWL) in the Ashanti Region has shut down the Barekese Water Treatment Plant and the Achiase Booster to conduct urgent repairs.
The shutdown was necessitated by a major burst on the 36” (900mm) transmission line that supplies water to a significant portion of the Kumasi metropolis. The damage was caused by equipment used by a contractor constructing drains from the Suame roundabout to Breman Ahenful.
In a statement, GWL detailed that the affected areas include Suame, Tafo/Pankrono, Asokwa, Bantama, Sokoban, Kronum, Barekese, Manhyia, Oforikrom, Kwadaso, Atasamanso, Kotwi, Adum, KNUST, Odoum, Asokore Mampong, and surrounding areas.
GWL assured customers that its engineers are diligently working to repair the transmission line and resume operations as quickly as possible. Water supply will be restored immediately upon the completion of the repairs.
