In the ongoing trial related to the ambulance scandal, Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, Chief of Defense Staff, and the Military Secretary are slated to testify later this week.

Their testimonies are crucial as they address documents presented by the prosecution alleging Richard Jakpa’s dismissal from the military in 2007 due to poor performance and failure to pass promotional exams.

Richard Jakpa’s legal team contends that these documents are aimed at undermining his credibility, particularly in light of his testimony in defense of Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson in a separate criminal trial. As a result, subpoenas have been issued to compel the military officials’ attendance.

The trial involves Dr. Ato Forson, Richard Jakpa, and the Chief of the Ministry of Health, who are accused of willfully causing a financial loss of €2.37 million to the state through a contract for 200 ambulances. Court documents indicate that the vehicles purchased were allegedly ordinary buses lacking essential ambulance equipment, thus not suitable for their intended medical purpose.
