The Chief of Nkroful, Nana Kwasi Kutuah, along with the Nzema Manle, has summoned Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to Nkroful to offer an unreserved apology to the kinsmen of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
This follows NAPO’s remarks perceived as an attack on Nkrumah’s personality during his unveiling in Kumasi.
Although NAPO issued an apology for his “Your Kwame Nkrumah” comment, Nana Kwasi Kutuah and the Nzema Manle stated at a press conference on Sunday, July 14, in Nkroful that NAPO’s apology was defensive and did not adequately admit to insulting Nkrumah. They insist he must come to Nkroful to apologize in person.
“His comments, where he alluded to using the phrase in our local Twi parlance as ‘Mo Kwame Nkrumah Nu’ meaning ‘Your Kwame Nkrumah,’ smack of gross disrespect against Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and we condemn it with all alacrity. Dr. Prempeh’s comments are an affront to our democracy and have the potential to derail the peace and unity of the country,” the chief declared.
The chief emphasized that NAPO’s posture in not fully admitting to the insult in his initial apology was inadequate. “It is intriguing to note that his posture of not admitting to insulting Nkrumah in his release is not enough, and we call on him to come again, since his claim is deemed hollow.”
The Nzema Manle has been made aware of media reports suggesting that Dr. Prempeh has apologized to Nkrumah and other past Presidents of Ghana. However, they demand that Dr. Prempeh come to Nzema to meet with Nananom and the family of Dr. Nkrumah in Nkroful to render an unreserved apology to the kinsmen of the revered icon.
Surrounded by the chiefs and people of Nzema, the Chief of Nkroful issued a stern warning to politicians who might attempt to undermine the legacy of Dr. Nkrumah. “We, the Chiefs, people of Nkroful, Nzema, and the Western Region, want to tell the world that we cherish the achievements of Dr. Nkrumah and will not allow anyone or group to bring the hard-won reputation of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah into disrepute.”
The chief also urged all political actors and their followers to desist from denigrating the image of Dr. Nkrumah, who is recognized globally as the “African of the Millennium.” He concluded by encouraging political actors and their followers to promote messages that foster unity, peace, and development in Ghana.
