President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has condemned the attempted assassination of former U.S. President Donald Trump, asserting that politically motivated violence undermines democracy and peace.

This comes after Trump was injured during an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, July 13.

During the rally, shots rang out as Trump was speaking, causing panic among the crowd as Secret Service agents swiftly surrounded the former president.

President Akufo-Addo issued a statement expressing his outrage and offering his best wishes to Trump and the American people.

“On behalf of the government and the people of Ghana, I condemn in the strongest terms the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump. Such acts of politically motivated violence have no place in our world and undermine the principles of democracy and peace that we all hold dear. We send our heartfelt best wishes to President Trump and the American people during this difficult time, and we pray for a swift and complete recovery.”

Trump, who emerged with a bloodied face, recounted that he was shot in the ear, describing a “whizzing sound” and the sensation of a “bullet ripping through the skin.”

The FBI identified the gunman as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was shot and killed by the Secret Service. One spectator was killed at the rally and two others were critically injured.
