The Eastern Nzema Traditional Council has officially announced the destoolment of Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III, the Omanhene of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council, due to alleged gross misconduct and incompetence.

The destoolment rites, led by Paramount Queen Mother Obaahema Avo Nyimah III, along with the council and the entire royal family, took place at the forecourt of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council Palace on Friday, July 12, 2024.

In a press statement, Paramount Queen Mother Obaahema Avo Nyimah III accused Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III of being self-centered and a divisive leader. She claimed that he had reduced the council to a “normal day-care school,” as many chiefs had resorted to court for redress instead of seeking his mediation and resolution of their differences.

She also mentioned that Awulae Amihere III had been restrained by a court order from acting as the Omanhene of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council since May 14, 2024, and cautioned the public against transacting any official business with him.

Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli was further indicted for failing to account for numerous royalties from statutory bodies belonging to the Traditional Area (stool) since his enstoolment as paramount chief thirteen years ago. He was also accused of dishonestly taking statutory quarterly grants or allowances on behalf of the Paramount Queen Mother from the Western Region House of Chiefs without her authorization and failing to inform her or pay the same to her.

“We are very disappointed and ashamed to have installed him (Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III) as our leader. Due to his ineptitude and greed for material wealth over the wellbeing of his followers for nearly fifteen years, we, the family to which I, Obaheema Avo Nyimah, belong, hereby announce his destoolment as the Paramount Chief of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council,” she said.

EASTERN NZEMA TRADITIONAL COUNCIL DESTOOLS AWULAE AMIHERE KPANYINLI III AS OMANHENE

The Eastern Nzema Traditional Council, led by the Paramount Queen Mother Obaahema Avo Nyimah III together with the council and the entire royal family on Friday 12, July 2024 formally announced the destoolment of Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III, Omanhene of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council for his alleged gross misconduct and incompetence.

The destoolment rites took place at the forecourt of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council Palace last Friday afternoon, amidst drumming and chanting of Nzema war songs by some section of the youth, royal family members, abusuapkayinlis (family heads), divisional and sub-chiefs and members of the press.

The Paramount Queen Mother, Obaahema Avo Nyimah III accused Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III of being self-centred, a divisive leader as well as reducing the council to a normal day-care school as most of the chiefs have resorted to court for redress instead of taking charge at the helm of affairs when they run to him mediate and resolve their differences.

According to Obaahema Avo Nyimah III, the royal family and the entire council are fed up with the continuous negligence and show of incompetence by her brother (Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III) which has lowered the true spirit of the council.

She asserted that Awulae Amihere III was dragged to court where he has been restrained from carrying himself as the Omanhene of Eastern Nzema Traditional Council as far back as May 14, 2024, and would want to make it clear to the general public to desist from transacting any official business with him henceforth.

Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli was indicted for his failure to account to the family and the stool (Oman) for the numerous royalties from statutory bodies belonging to the Traditional Area (stool) since he was enstooled as a paramount chief thirteen (13) years ago,

He was also accused of allegedly dishonestly taking statutory quarterly grants or allowances on behalf of the Paramount Queen Mother from the Western Region House of Chiefs without her authorization whatsoever and dishonestly refusing to inform her or pay the same to her.

Obaahema Avo Nyimah opined the consistent intemperate behaviour by Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III against subordinate chiefs by verbally assaulting his chiefs with unprintable words has brought to disrepute the image, and unity as well as reduced the morale of almost all the chiefs who have refused to accord him the needed respect.

“We are very disappointed and ashamed to install him (Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III) as our leader and due to his ineptitude and greed for material wealth instead of the wellbeing of his followers for the close to fifteen years, we, the family which I the Obaheema Avo Nyimah belongs to have from today henceforth announced his destoolment as the Paramount Chief of Eastern Nzema Traditional Council”. Obaahema Avo Nyimah III told the press and the public.

 

Below are excerpts of the petitions made at both the High Court and the Western Region House of Chiefs on the following grounds which were upheld by the High Court leading to restraining him from holding himself as the Paramount Chief of Eastern Nzema Traditional Council.

1. The Respondent has failed and/or refused to heed advice by the elders of the stool to marry a wife after 13 years contrary to tradition and customs of the people of Eastern Nzema, he is still not married and remains single and has rather engaged in acts that desecrate the paramount stool.

2. The Respondent has failed to account to the family and the stool (Oman) of the numerous Royalties from statutory bodies belonging to the Traditional Area (stool) since he was enstooled as a paramount chief thirteen (13) years ago.

3. The Respondent dishonestly takes statutory quarterly grants due the 1st Petitioner from the Western Region House of Chiefs without her authorization whatsoever and dishonestly refuses to inform her or pay the same to her.

4. Consistent intemperate behaviour by the Respondent against subordinate chiefs by verbally assaulting his chiefs with unprintable words.

5. The Respondent has turned the palace and its sacred places into a guest house accommodation for all kinds of people subjecting the Eastern Nzema traditions and customs of piety to keeping the palace into ridicule’

6. The Respondent has failed to perform customary and traditional rites in the palace and all places necessary under the paramountcy resulting in the deaths of some prominent family elders.

 

7. The Respondent unilaterally and consistently allocates scholarship resources from the Ghana Gas Company for the indigenes of Eastern Nzema to non-indigenes of Eastern Nzema without any consultation of his elders whatsoever.

8. Travelling outside Ghana without notice to the Queen mother and Kingmakers.

9. The Respondent has failed to render account to the elders of the stool/family and to take proper custody of the Family/stool properties entrusted into your care. E.g. Kala Coconut Plantation, Allokpeke Farm and many others.

10. Failing to honour numerous stool/family meetings to discuss family/stool (Oman) issues, hence defying your sacred oath that you will respond to your kingmakers/subjects’ call at all times, whether rain or shine.
