New Paramount Chief Installed for Eastern Nzema Traditional Council

The Eastern Nzema Traditional Council has installed a new Omanhene, HRM Awulae Blay IX in a ceremony that took place in Atuabo, on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the Ellembelle District in the Western Region.

Awulae Blay IX succeeds the recently destooled Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III, becoming the 18th occupant of the Great Black Stool of Ellembelle-Manle.

The coronation rites were led by Paramount Queen Mother Obaahema Avo Nyimah III, supported by key members of the Royal Ntwea family.

During the ceremony, the Queen Mother Obamahema Abi Nyoman III called for respect and recognition of the new Omanhene. She also issued a stern warning to divisional and sub-chiefs, as well as companies operating in the area, to cease all dealings with the former chief.

“The Royal family of Eastern Nzema Traditional Council would like to caution all divisional and sub-chiefs to refrain from dealing with the former Omanhene (Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III) as any of such act will be deemed contrary to the dictates of the Paramountcy and shall be observed as gross disrespect to the Council and will be held liable for misconduct,” she warned.

The Queen Mother further reiterated that “Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III is no longer recognized as the legitimate Omanhene and anyone who attempts to pay allegiance to him will incur the wrath of the Black Stool.”

In his acceptance speech, Awulae Blay IX expressed gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him and pledged to prioritize education, health, sanitation, and youth development in the region. He also emphasized the need for unity and peace among the council’s chiefs.

“I assure you of my commitment to serving my people dispassionately,” the new Omanhene stated. “I call on all to rally behind me to harness the opportunities for our people. Education, health, good sanitation, as well as capacity building for the youth, will be my topmost priority.”

This change in leadership comes after the former Omanhene was allegedly removed for gross misconduct. The installation of Awulae Blay IX is expected to usher in a new era for the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council and its people.
