Once a highly respected General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing. Kwabena Agyapong has found himself in an unexpected and seemingly ignoble role. As the errand boy for the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Agyapong’s current position is a far cry from his former stature – He is now the Boy-boy of the mate.

This shift is particularly striking given his past criticisms of Dr. Bawumia, whom he had previously deemed unfit to lead the party due to what he described as the Vice President’s poor performance. This stark contrast between his past and present roles has not only diminished his respect in the country but also cast a spotlight on the fickle nature of political loyalty and ambition.

The narrative around Agyapong’s change in status suggests that his involvement in the NPP presidential race was driven more by financial gain than genuine political conviction. Many observers speculate that his decision to join Dr. Bawumia’s campaign was motivated by the lucrative opportunities it presented, rather than any ideological alignment or renewed faith in Bawumia’s capabilities.

This perceived opportunism has further tarnished Agyapong’s reputation, reducing him to a figure of ridicule in the eyes of the public. His visible efforts to shadow and emulate Dr. Bawumia’s every move, including his participation in public dances, have only served to amplify this perception, making him a subject of mockery on social media.

The treatment of Agyapong by the so-called “Akyem Mafia” within the NPP underscores the ruthless dynamics of internal party politics. Once a formidable force as General Secretary, Agyapong’s relegation to a subordinate role (Boy-boy of the party’s candidate) highlights how quickly political fortunes can change. The Agyapade3 book is indeed powerful.

Kwabena’s story is a cautionary tale about the dangers of unprincipled politicking and the transient nature of power and respect in the political arena. As he continues to navigate his new role, the former General Secretary’s fall from grace serves as a stark reminder of the costs of political expediency and the fickle loyalties that often define political careers.
