Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to relinquish power peacefully upon the expiration of his tenure, citing the exemplary transitions of former President John Agyekum Kufuor and John Dramani Mahama.
Addressing a gathering at the Launch of the NDC official campaign on July 27, 2024, at Tamale, Asiedu Nketia emphasized the importance of a peaceful transfer of power, highlighting the precedents set by Akufo-Addo’s predecessors.
“We implore President Akufo-Addo to emulate the noble examples of his predecessors, who relinquished power peacefully when their terms ended.
“We recall how former President Kufuor handed over power to former President Mills, and how former President Mahama similarly transferred power to President Akufo-Addo. We expect him to follow suit.”
Asiedu Nketia assured that the NDC is fully prepared for the impending elections and will employ all legitimate means to secure victory while eschewing violence. “We will exhaust every democratic avenue to win, but we will not compromise on peace and stability.”
He also appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure a free, fair, and transparent electoral process, guaranteeing the integrity of the elections.
