Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) has announced that the ongoing planned maintenance works on its Gas Processing Plant (GPP) and offshore Gas Export Facilities are approximately 60% complete.
The facilities were shut down on August 1 for routine maintenance, which is expected to be completed by August 17.
According to Mr. Richmond Alamu, Assets Integrity and Maintenance Manager at Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC), “the maintenance works aim to enhance the plant’s operational efficiency and ensure uninterrupted gas supply.
The workers are all Ghanaians no expatriates he added.”He explained that, while regular maintenance is performed on various equipment, some require a shutdown of the plant, which is the purpose of the current exercise.
He said: “The maintenance team has a lot of equipment which we do regular maintenance on them, but there are some that require that we shut down the plant, and that is what we are doing within this period.”
Dr. Robert Kofi Lartey, Operations Manager at Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC), confirmed that engineers are working diligently to complete the planned maintenance works on schedule.
He stated that, the shutdown was planned in 2023, by the manufacturer’s designs and planning, and synchronized with the activities of other agencies in the gas value chain.
“This is a national asset and so, we work with international safety and health protocols, and also the integrity of the plant, and we do so by working with all agencies in the oil and gas value chain,” Dr Lartey added.
Mr. Ernest Kofi Owusu-Bempah, Head of Corporate Communications at Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC), reiterated the company’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency in its facilities.
He added that arrangements have been made to supply lean gas to clients from the Sankofa-OCTP field during the shutdown period.
“The planned maintenance works demonstrate GNGC’s dedication to ensuring the reliability and efficiency of its operations, which is crucial for meeting the country’s energy needs.”
