Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has proposed extending the validity of a driver’s licence to up to 10 years, describing the current system as inconvenient.
Currently, drivers in Ghana are legally required to renew their licenses every two years.
However, speaking as part of this campaign tour at Akwatia in the Eastern Region, the vice president noted that the current system creates inconveniences for drivers and must be extended.
“We are all drivers and our driver’s licences expire every two years, is that not the case? Unless you go to the DVLA to renew it why?
“We are saying let’s extend it, eight years, ten years. Let’s make sure we can have the driver’s licence without having to go to renew it every year; it doesn’t make sense,” he stated.
