The leadership of the United Private School Teachers Association of Ghana (UPSTAG) has issued a stern warning to the nation’s political parties and government. The association expressed deep frustration with the continued neglect of private school teachers in policy formulation, underscoring the critical role these educators play in shaping the future of Ghana’s youth.

“The leadership of UPSTAG will be forced to advise our members to withdraw their votes nationwide if no cogent policy is put in place to address the needs and concerns of private school teachers,” the statement read.

According to UPSTAG, this move is not a threat but a necessary action to ensure that private school teachers are given the recognition and support they deserve.

UPSTAG believes that the lack of a comprehensive policy for private school teachers is a clear indication of neglect and a lack of tangible appreciation for their invaluable contributions to Ghana’s education sector.

Private school teachers, who educate a significant portion of the country’s students, often work under challenging conditions with little to no support from the government.

The leadership of UPSTAG is open to engagement and is willing to share its policy proposals with any political party or government that shows a genuine interest in addressing their concerns. “We are open to engagement and are eager to collaborate on solutions that support our educators,” UPSTAG added.

The association is calling for urgent dialogue, emphasizing that the well-being of private school teachers directly impacts the quality of education in Ghana.

As the election period approaches, UPSTAG’s message is clear: without meaningful action, the nation’s private school teachers will not be overlooked in the political discourse. Their vote, the association asserts, will only be given to those who prioritize and deliver on the needs of private school educators.

The General Director of UPSTAG, Rev. Julius Blay Segbedzi, disclosed this in an interview with The Online Times. He emphasized the association’s commitment to ensuring that private school teachers are not marginalized in national education policies.
