John Dramani Mahama, the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) for its delay in providing political parties with copies of the provisional voter register. This register is essential for the upcoming voter exhibition exercise.
During a campaign event in Sogakope on Friday, Mr. Mahama expressed his concern, stating that the EC had requested political parties to submit their external drives in July to receive the register. However, as of Friday, August 17, 2024, the register had not been made available, and the EC has failed to offer any explanation for the delay.
In a press release dated August 17, 2024, the NDC emphasized that with just three days remaining until the exhibition of the Provisional Voter Register, the Electoral Commission had yet to release the register to the party.
The NDC’s statement warned, “The EC will not be allowed to stampede us into the elections. Every time lost will be reclaimed at their expense because the elections will not be postponed!”
The party also announced plans to hold three public forums and demonstrations by concerned citizens in response to the situation.
