The People’s National Convention (PNC) is witnessing a dynamic leadership contest, as 17 candidates have stepped forward to vie for various party positions following the close of nominations on August 21, 2024.
This follows an emergency Executive Meeting held on August 10, 2024, which set the stage for the nominations.
With the vetting process now complete, the aspirants are actively promoting their visions, with key focuses on constitutional reform and strengthening the party’s membership base.
Among the notable contenders, Bernard Anbataayela Mornah and David Apasera are locked in a tight race for the coveted flagbearer position. Meanwhile, Hajia Hajara Ali and Asaki Awingobit are contesting the Chairmanship, and Awudu Ishak and Yakubu Fahrudeen are competing for the role of General Secretary.
During the vetting, Awudu Ishak emphasized the need to review the party’s constitution, while Yakubu Fahrudeen advocated for the creation of a robust membership database.
Bernard Mornah, a former PNC chairman and current flagbearer candidate, highlighted his past achievements and promised to abolish ex gratia payments if elected.
David Apasera, his main rival and the party’s 2020 flagbearer, pledged to leverage his experience to lead the party to victory.
