The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has responded to concerns from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the current exhibition of the Provisional Voters Register, explaining that the process is intended to address and correct any errors or omissions.
The EC emphasized that the Final Voter Register, which is used for elections, is only printed once all identified issues have been resolved. This has been the standard procedure since 1992, according to the commission.
The clarification comes after the NDC raised concerns about discrepancies found in the ongoing exhibition of the Provisional Voter Register. The party has since requested an emergency meeting with the Electoral Commission to discuss these issues.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, August 28, the EC stated, “The rationale for exhibiting the Provisional Voters Register is to correct errors and omissions. It is only after all identified issues are corrected that the Final Register is printed for the Elections. This has been the practice since 1992.”
The EC urged the public to disregard claims suggesting that the voter register is not fit for its intended purpose.
