Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has announced plans to deploy 50,000 CCTV cameras in key locations across Ghana to enhance security and curb criminal activities.
This commitment was made during his campaign visit to the Dome-Kwabenya constituency.
Citing a study by security agencies, Dr. Bawumia highlighted that 50,000 cameras are required to effectively monitor roads in regional and district capitals. He acknowledged that while the current government has initiated the installation of CCTV cameras, coverage remains incomplete.
In addition to his security-focused promises, Dr. Bawumia underscored the significance of a “Buy Ghana First” policy. He argued that prioritizing locally produced goods would not only support Ghanaian businesses but also generate employment opportunities.
During his campaign tour, which included meetings with clergy, imams, and chiefs in the Ashongman Estate area, Dr. Bawumia detailed the NPP government’s accomplishments and reiterated the necessity of improved security measures, particularly through the widespread installation of CCTV cameras.
“I called national security, and I said what will it take for Ghana to have CCTV on all the streets in all of our regional capitals and all of our district capitals so that we can see any crime that is taking place, we can at least have a clue.”
“So, they came back to me, and they said they need 50000 CCTV cameras, and they are going to get 50000 CCTV cameras, we are going to provide so that the police can have visibility for every movement because we don’t have many police officers,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
