Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reiterated that empowering women to be financially strong and independent is a top priority for the next NDC government.
Speaking to a large gathering of traders and supporters at the Tarkwa market in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency, where she launched her three-day campaign tour of the Western Region, she emphasized that the NDC’s flagbearer, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, is deeply committed to advancing the cause of women.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted Mahama’s pledge to establish a Women’s Development Bank, which she said would be instrumental in providing women, including fishmongers, bakers, hairdressers, market women, traders, dressmakers, and those in corporate employment, with access to soft loans and startup capital for their businesses.
She urged Ghanaians to place their trust in Mr. Mahama, describing him as a leader who respects women, the vulnerable, and all citizens. She called on the electorate to support him in the upcoming December 7 general elections, expressing her belief that when women thrive financially, families and communities benefit as well.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also expressed concern over the lack of development in Tarkwa, despite the constituency’s long-standing support for the NPP over the past two decades. She encouraged the constituents to consider changing their voting pattern in the upcoming elections by supporting the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Sheikh Issah Taylor, and Mr. John Dramani Mahama, to bring the much-needed development to the area.
