The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has strongly condemned the recent assaults on its personnel, following two separate incidents in early September 2024 that left one firefighter seriously injured.
In a release by GNFS, on September 3, ADO II Abdul Aziz Annor from the Ministries Fire Station suffered a fractured ankle during an assault at La Palm T-Junction, Accra, while replenishing a fire truck. The suspects have been arrested and granted bail.
In another incident on September 5, firefighters from the Dansoman Fire Station faced verbal and physical attacks from residents while responding to a fire.
The GNFS has reported both cases to the police and is pursuing legal action against the perpetrators.
Desmond E. Ackan, Head of Public Relations for GNFS, emphasized that assaulting firefighters is unlawful and warned that the service will “defend its personnel performing their lawful duties at all times and fight culprits of firefighter assaults with all its might under the law.”
