The Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Awutu Senya West constituency, Cassius Otoo Larbi, along with two others, has been remanded into police custody by the Awutu Bereku District Court.
The ruling was delivered by Her Ladyship Naomi Konto after the three were accused of threatening an eyewitness who had confronted them for allegedly removing posters of Eugene Kofi Bentum Arhin, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate. The posters were reportedly taken down from equipment being used for the District Road Improvement Project.
The suspects are scheduled to reappear in court on Monday, September 16, 2024, after a five-day remand period.
Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, the sitting Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, expressed her displeasure over the situation, noting that her posters had also been removed. She described the ongoing legal case as “petty.”
However, District Chief Executive for Awutu Senya West, Moses Arhinful Acquah, emphasized that the issue extends beyond just the removal of posters. He clarified that the case also involves the threat made against the eyewitness who had advised the suspects to stop their actions.
Acquah further highlighted a previous incident involving Cassius Otoo Larbi, where he and others reportedly disrupted Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s speech at the annual Awubia Festival by playing loud music. This incident, according to Acquah, had attracted the attention of national security operatives.
