The True Drivers’ Union and Ghana Committed Drivers’ Association have set September 25, 2024, to demonstrate against alleged violations by Motor Traffic and Transport Department officers and local government taskforces citing concerns over “rampant and inconsiderate arrests”.

“Our decision is based on the rampant and inconsiderate arrests and prosecution of some of our drivers without regard to due process by these Unethical members of the IGP’s Taskforce officers together with some Taskforce members of the local government assemblies”.

In a statement issued by the Ghana Committed Drivers’ Association Spokesperson, Charles Danso, stated that the demonstration comes after failed attempts to secure an audience to address their grievances.

“This demonstration has become necessary due to several unsuccessful attempts to secure an audience to articulate our concerns, we are left with no other option but to embark on this demonstration as we have scheduled”.

The unions claim these actions are creating insecurity among their members and hindering their work.

“This behavior of these officers is unbecoming of true officers of the law and an affront to the rule of law and natural justice and it is making our work difficult and creating insecurity and panic among our members”.
