NDC Protest: EC Calls for Dialogue to Resolve Concerns

The Electoral Commission (EC) has invited the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to a formal meeting aimed at discussing the party’s concerns about the voters register ahead of the upcoming December 7 general elections.

Deputy Chairperson of the EC, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, emphasized the importance of dialogue and collaboration between the Commission and political parties to address any issues and ensure a smooth electoral process. He stressed that constructive engagement is the most effective way to resolve differences, including those related to the electoral roll.

In an interaction with the media, Dr. Asare urged the NDC to engage directly with the EC if they have concerns, instead of relying solely on nationwide protests, such as the one scheduled for September 17.

He further emphasized that if the NDC’s goal is to achieve a credible and robust voters register for the 2024 elections, the party should be willing to engage in dialogue with the Commission.

“We think that what will change something is the discussion table. We coming together, although we concede that political parties are some things which are entrenched in our laws, individuals can come together and demonstrate, and express concerns as far as they have certain things to express concerns about.

“So that one is not a problem to us. But we think that if the objective of the NDC is a solution to have a credible register, a robust register entering into the 2024 elections, we believe that they must be willing to come to the discussion table.”
