John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has promised to construct a cocoa processing facility in Kukuom, located in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region, if elected president.
During a campaign visit to the Ahafo Region, Mahama highlighted his commitment to addressing youth unemployment while driving regional development as part of his industrialisation agenda.
The construction of the cocoa processing facility is a key element of his broader economic transformation plan, which is anchored on his proposed 24-hour economy policy.
Mahama’s 24-hour economy vision seeks to create a continuously active economy, where businesses and industries operate round the clock. This initiative aims to boost productivity, enhance access to goods and services, and, most importantly, generate employment opportunities, particularly for young people.
The policy intends to capitalize on Ghana’s growing population by ensuring that sectors such as manufacturing, processing, logistics, and services can operate 24/7, leading to more shifts and jobs for the expanding workforce.
Mahama noted that the cocoa processing facility would be a critical component of his industrialization strategy, aiming to establish industrial hubs across regions with strong agricultural output.
