Richard Gyan-Mensah, MP for Gomoa West, has denied accusations of carrying a firearm and firing shots during the recommissioning of District Road Infrastructure Project (DRIP) machines in Gomoa West.
This response follows a clash between supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the event, which occurred on Monday morning.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa West, Bismark Basie Nkum, alleged that the MP pulled out a gun and stabbed a DRIP equipment operator during the altercation, sparking controversy in the area.
In a statement, Richard Gyan-Mensah dismissed the claims as baseless and accused the DCE of recommissioning national assets already commissioned by President Akufo-Addo. He described the DCE’s allegations as “baseless conjectures of a man who has chosen to clutch at straws to save himself from drowning.”
The MP also explained that, during the heated exchange, he intervened quickly to calm tensions and prevent the situation from escalating. He apologized to Nananom and the people of Gomoa West for the unfortunate incident, expressing regret over the turn of events.
