The National Tenants Union of Ghana (NATUG) has officially endorsed the housing policies of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following a review of various political parties’ proposals.

NATUG praised the NDC’s plans to transform the Rent Control Department into an independent Rent Authority and welcomed the party’s promise to introduce low-interest rent advance schemes and affordable housing initiatives.
In contrast, NATUG criticized the housing promises made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing them as “recycled, unfulfilled, and broken.”
This endorsement follows NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama’s pledge to prioritize affordable housing for Ghanaians. NATUG expressed that the NDC’s policies align with the union’s objectives, officially declaring their support.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 2, NATUG said, “After comparing the housing policies of both parties, the National Tenants’ Union of Ghana have decided to endorse the housing proposals of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).”
The union urged the NDC to fully implement its housing policies if elected, highlighting the importance of addressing Ghana’s housing challenges. They also warned that they would hold Mahama accountable during his potential presidency.
“Furthermore, we call on the NDC’s leadership and their Presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama to fully implement these policies if elected, to alleviate the housing challenges facing many Ghanaians.
“The Union will hold a future John Dramani Mahama-led government accountable to these promises during the 2025-2028 period,”the statement concluded.
