The Cocoa Carriers Association has announced that its members at the Tema, Takoradi, and Kumasi depots of the Cocoa Marketing Company Limited will begin an indefinite sit-down strike starting today, Monday, October 7, 2024. This action is in response to ongoing concerns regarding their conditions of service.
In 2022, the Association staged a similar strike, demanding better wages and improved working conditions. That strike resulted in thousands of bags of cocoa beans being left unattended in various Cocoa Marketing Company Limited warehouses.
Raymond Atanga Abobiga, National Chairman of the Cocoa Carriers Association, confirmed the strike in an interview with Citi News on Sunday. He called on all members to fully support and participate in the strike until their demands are addressed.
“We are going to report at work but will be at the gate of the various warehouses and then we are not going to work until they attend to our needs and our demands.
“I want the management of COCOBOD and our directors to know that we are not against an individual and that we are fighting a just cause,” he stated.
